Ruby Wax reflects on her 17-hour chat with OJ Simpson where he 'stabbed her with banana'

While the 70-year-old can still remember being convinced that she would get him to confess to being behind the fatal stabbings, he simply turned to the camera and monotonously responded: “No.”

Writing for The Times of London after , Ruby revealed that after the interview, she had a peculiar interaction with the athlete-turned-actor back at her hotel room as he knocked on her door.

When Ruby opened it, all she saw was OJ “making stabbing motions with a banana held above his head while screeching, in the vein of the famous shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho”.

She also recalled OJ sharing his “favourite poem” with her at dinner the night before their interview, which was about Lizzie Borden who had been acquitted of double murder in 1983. 

Ruby recalled: “Lizzie Borden took an axe / And gave her mother forty whacks / When she saw what she had done / She gave her father forty-one.”

After their bizarre encounters, the comedian thought she wouldn’t hear from OJ again but come April 1st of the same year, the former NFL star seemingly made an international call to reach Ruby in London just to say a few words.

He reportedly told her before quickly hanging up: “Hi, it’s OJ. …April fool’s.”

The 76-year-old did on April 10 after a as his family released a statement. 

They assured he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren and requested “privacy and grace” while they transition to life without the star.
