A self-proclaimed "sun lounger stealer" has shared his top tips for getting the best sunbeds while on holiday, warning "if you snooze, you lose".

Johnny Seifert says he has honed the craft of securing the prized spots over 15 years visiting the same hotel in Gran Caneria.

Now the Brit has shared some of his top tips for securing the best sunbeds around the pool, helping you get closer to that perfect holiday.

The first tip Mr Seifert says is a matter of timing.

He told the Sun: "My first top tip is to get your deck chairs at about 7.30am in the morning.

"It's likely the pool attendants would have cleaned the floor around that time and would have moved all the chairs ready for the day."

Johnny pointed out that in most all-inclusive resorts, breakfast is served at around 8.30am - meaning most holidaygoers will still be sound asleep as you nab the best spots.

To make sure you're ready for action, he also recommended preparing for the early morning dash the night before, getting everyone's "towels and double towels" ready.

He urged savvy tourists to choose their favourite sunbeds "on day one" and then get them every time.

But it is also important to choose the right spot for what you want to do on your holiday.

If you're looking to pick up a tan, Mr Seifert can you help you there too.

He recommended picking sunbeds that had enough space to be turned around, so that during the day you can position it to face the sun.

Securing your preferred deckchair is one thing - then, you have to keep it. Johnny makes sure he is armed with some items of clothing or a book to keep your chosen sunbed your own.

He said: "Put down a jacket or a t-shirt or a book, and open the book and leave it upside down, and it'll show that you were just there and you're coming back.

"Packing clothes pegs can also help keep your towels and t-shirts in place and stop them from flying away".

The holiday master also recommended researching the resort's sunbed policies in advance regarding what you can and cannot eat while relaxing.
