Meghan Markle’s confession to King Charles right before wedding to Prince Harry
The Duchess of Sussex confided in the future King just before tying the knot with Prince Harry.
Meghan Markle shared an emotional confession with King Charles before she married Prince Harry.
The former Suits actress explained the heartfelt moment during an episode of Harry & Meghan on Netflix.
During the fourth episode of the series, she said that she spoke to the then future King prior to tying the knot with his second son.
Meghan, who had been married once previously, told the programme of how she asked King Charles to walk her down the aisle.
She said: "Harry's dad is very charming. And I said to him, 'I've lost my dad in this', so him as my father-in-law was really important to me, so I asked him to walk me down the aisle and he said yes."
During the episode, as footage of her and Charles walking together played, Meghan noted: "The whole thing was surreal. It was at that moment, I could also see H."
Meghan and her father Thomas Markle have been estranged since about 2018, the same year as the royal wedding.
According to the New York Post, their relationship is "beyond repair" and he has hit out at his daughter many times during various interviews. In September last year he told Good Morning Britain that he had not been able to see Meghan and Harry's two children.
He said: “I’m heartbroken. I am very upset. This is a cruel thing to do to a grandparent, to deny the right to see a grandchild.
“There’s no excuse for treating me this way, no excuse to treat grandparents that way,” he continued.
“Meghan lived with me from sixth grade to high school, and I never saw anything like that. I never saw the kind of woman she turned into. I am shocked. She is not the person I knew as my daughter.”
